Day 1

On arrival at London Airport, the group will be met and welcomed and transferred by bus to their hotel in London. The remainder of the day will be at leisure.

Day 2

In the morning there will be a guided sightseeing tour of London including the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster, Piccadilly, St. Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace etc.

Afternoon visit to the Honey Association one of the principal bodies which represents importers of honey into Britain. Or alternatively a visit could be made to the National Farmers Union to speak to the Bee Farmers Association which represents producers with over 40 hives in the UK

DAY 3

Morning visit to Rothamsted Research, the longest established agricultural research station in the world, founded originally in 1843, where the group will speak with people involved in bee research, followed by a visit in the afternoon to a commercial bee producer in the county of Buckinghamshire.

Drive afterwards to Salisbury

DAY 4

Morning visit to Salisbury Cathedral and Stonehenge, before departing for Devon and Cornwall.

DAY 5

Morning visit to Buckfast Abbey, a Roman Catholic Community of Benedictine monks, first founded in 1018. Buckfast Abbey is famous the world over for its bee-keeping and for the work done by the late Brother Adam, who looked after bees at Buckfast for over 70 years and was the breeder of the famous Buckfast Bee.

Afternoon visit to National Bee Supplies, one of the foremost companies producing bee-keeping equipment, high quality hives and frames.

DAY 6

Drive north today calling en route at Camelot Country products who stock bee-keeping books, bee and skincare products, beeswax and articles on bee-keeping subjects.

Afterwards travel across the Severn River Bridge (England's longest river) to arrive in the Welsh capital of Cardiff, where there will be a short sightseeing orientation tour, followed by a visit to the International Bee Research Association, founded in 1949, whose comprehensive range of information services covers all topics relating to bees, pollination, diseases and pests and has the world's first and biggest specialised bee library.

Drive afterwards back into England to arrive at Stratford-upon-Avon.

Day 7

In the morning there will be a visit to the headquarters of the British Bee Keepers Association situated at the site of the Royal Show at Stoneleigh Abbey, Kenilworth, where there will be a chance to meet local BBK officials and to enjoy a lunch with them and other local bee-keepers.

Afternoon visit to a local commercial bee-keeper.

Stay night STRATFORD-UPON-AVON

Day 8

Depart the Midlands and travel to the county of Lincolnshire, where there will be a visit to E.H Thorne, renowned as makers of quality bee-keeping equipment, candle making supplies and accessories, as well as a wide range of bee-keeping equipment, including bee hives, beeswax sheets, protective clothing, extractors, smokers and many other apiary accessories. 

Alternatively a visit will be arranged with local bee-keepers.

Drive afterwards north to the historic city of York.

DAY 9

In the morning there will be a sightseeing tour of York including the famous York 'Minster', City Walls, historic old area of the town known as the Shambles, followed by free time.

Afternoon visit to the National Bee Unit with a chance to see and hear about the work that this importation institution undertakes with relation to honey-bee protection, disease and environmental damage etc. The Bee Unit uses an integrated programme of apiary inspections, diagnosis, research and development, training and extension provided by a team of bee scientists and consultancy services on bee health to government departments and the bee-keeping industry.

DAY 10

Leave today travelling north to Scotland. En route there will be a visit to Chain Bridge Honey Farm, a large scale commercial bee farm with 1750 hives, situated on the Scottish borders, producing very large quantities of comb honey as well as polish, candles and cosmetics.

Continue afterwards to arrive in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.

DAY 11

In the morning there will be a guided sightseeing tour of Edinburgh including Princes Street, the Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace, and famous Edinburgh Castle.

Remainder of the day at leisure for shopping and individual sightseeing in Edinburgh.

DAY 12

There will be an opportunity to meet with the Scottish Beekeepers Association, representing beekeepers throughout Scotland and producing a monthly magazine called the Scottish Beekeeper. The Moir Library is also in Edinburgh with one of the finest collections of beekeeping books and magazines in the world.
